Alignment showing the SMART coverage areas where it covers the areas of Sungai Ampang and Sungai Klang thus saving the areas of Masjid Jamek and its vicinity known as Financial District. SMART Tunnel is part of the Flood Mitigation Project for Kuala Lumpur undertaken by Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID). The areas covered by SMART Tunnel is around 45% of the total Kuala Lumpur flood prone areas. Other areas that are exposed to flood due to clogged drainage system or due to other rivers i.e. Sungai Bonus and Sungai Gombak are not under SMART Tunnel coverage area.
