Contactless Payment Cards – Conditions of Usage for Toll Payments (“Conditions of Usage”)

These Conditions of Usage govern the use of Contactless Payment Cards for toll payments on Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat Berhad’s toll road network (“Toll Network”). By using your Contactless Payment Card for toll payments, you agree to abide by these terms and conditions.

1. Definitions

ALR Group” refers to Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat Berhad and its subsidiaries which are Kesas Sdn. Bhd., Lingkaran Trans Kota Sdn. Bhd., Sistem Penyuraian Trafik KL Barat Sdn. Bhd. and Syarikat Mengurus Air Banjir & Terowong Sdn. Bhd.

Contactless Payment Cards” refers only to valid MyDebit, Visa and MasterCard prepaid, debit and credit cards issued by a recognised financial institution or issuer, that are authorised for use for toll payments on the Toll Network.

Contactless Payments Feature” refers to the feature which must be activated by the Cardholder, to make payments using the Contactless Payment Card, without having to insert the card into the Payment Terminal or entering the User’s Personal Identification Number (“PIN”)

Card-Not-Present Feature” refers to the feature which must be activated by the Cardholder, to make payments with his/her Contactless Payment Card, without being physically present when the payment is made1.
This feature is solely used for the purpose of recovering outstanding toll payments relating to transactions which were declined, but for which the Cardholder has passed through the designated toll collection points at the Toll Network.

Toll Network” refers to the system of tolled roads, bridges and tunnels managed by the respective Highway Concessionaires which comprises of the following:

User” or “Cardholder” refers to the individual or entity using Contactless Payment Cards for toll payments

2. User’s Responsibilities

2.1. The Contactless Payment Card must be valid, registered in the User’s name, and authorised for toll payments on the Toll Network.

2.2. The User is responsible for ensuring that the Contactless Payment Card:
2.2.1. is a genuine card that has been issued by a recognised financial institution or issuer
2.2.2. is not damaged
2.2.3. has not expired
2.2.4. has sufficient funds or credit available to cover the applicable toll amount due

2.3. The User is also responsible for ensuring that the Contactless Payments Feature and Card-Not-Present Feature has been activated for his/her Contactless Payment Card

2.4. The User may use mobile payments, if their Contactless Payments Card has been digitalised and enabled on their mobile device, for the purposes of toll payments. However, this highly discouraged as the usage of mobile devices at the toll lanes pose a high risk of damage (i.e. being dropped) due to the inherent conditions at the lane. Hence, the use of mobile payments for toll payments is entirely at the User’s own risk. ALR Group will not compensate the User for any loss or damage to their mobile device.

2.5. Any improper use of the Contactless Payment Card may result in it not being accepted for travel and those involved may be liable to a penalty fare or prosecution.

3. Contactless Payment Card Usage

3.1. To use the Contactless Payment Card for toll payments, the User must touch / tap the Contactless Payment Card to the designated card reader upon entering the toll lane.

3.2. By using the Contactless Payment Card for toll payments, the User authorises the Highway Concessionaire(s) to charge the applicable toll amount(s) to the User’s Contactless Payment Card account.

3.3. The User acknowledges that the toll charges vary for each of the highways.

3.4. Toll charges paid using the User’s Contactless Payment Card will appear on the User’s financial statement issued by his/her card issuing institution, with an indication of the location of the toll plaza for which the payment was deducted.

3.5. The Highway Concessionaires will not issue receipts for the toll payments and will not provide statements for toll charges to Users.

3.6. If the User has passed through the designated toll collection point but the User’s card is declined when it is submitted for payment, the User authorises the relevant Highway Concessionaire to seek to recover the outstanding payment using the User’s card details again, on a number of additional occasions until full payment is received.

3.7. If the User’s card has any unpaid toll charges from previous travel on the Toll Network, the User will not be permitted to pass unless the payment of toll charges for the current journey are approved by the card issuing institution.

4. Dispute resolution

4.1. Investigation of disputes and resolutions are managed by the respective card issuing
institutions.

4.2. Hence, in case of any discrepancies of disputes related to toll charges paid from the User’s Contactless Payment Card account, the User shall contact the card’s issuing institution directly as soon as possible.

5. Privacy & security

5.1. The ALR Group does not store any of the User’s personal or card security data.

6. Modifications

6.1. The ALR Group reserves the right to modify or update these Conditions of Usage at any
time.
